The Department of Defense, Veterans & Emergency Management is seeking a full-time TEMPORARY Heavy Equipment Operator II at the Maine Air National Guard Base in Bangor.   

Job duties include by are not limited to:

  • Maintain State of Maine and U.S. Air Force vehicles, heavy equipment, machinery and attachments
  • Maintain grounds, airfield pavements, fence lines, gates
  • Perform snow removal and deicing fluid removal operations
  • Mow and weed whack grounds and flight lines
  • Maintain all base roads, and parking lot pavements
  • Sweep for FOD removal on the airfield, aprons and taxiways
  • Perform daily trash removal and compacting
  • Effectively and safely operate/maintain/grease front end loaders, backhoes, excavators, dump trucks, sanders, plows, asphalt rollers, skid steers and attachments, bulldozers, graders, paint line sprayers, vehicle lifts, tractors with mowers up to 22 feet, various types of lawn mowers up to 16 feet, street sweeper/vacuum trucks, weed whackers
  • Operate all equipment in a safe and professional manner

Skills & Abilities to be successful:

  • Ability to follow oral or written instruction and follow directions
  • Ability to work long hours up to 16 hours on a single shift during plowing operations.
  • Ability to be on call, and on a rotational call list to cover snowstorms or other military operational needs
  • Ability to operate a chain saw for felling and cutting up trees and limbs
  • Ability to work on, install repair chain link fencing and gates
  • Ability to carry a cell phone for communications and after hour call-ins
  • Must be able to wear all safety equipment such as safety eyewear, hearing protection, gloves, respirator and safety chaps when using a chain saw

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

A valid Maine Class B License is required. Preference will be given to applicants  with commercial mowing and snow plowing experience.

Benefits: (effective July 1, 2020)

The bi-weekly dollar values of some State-paid benefits include:
