BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION:  Job Code: 9201; Range 08; Pay: $15.76/hour; 40 hours weekly: This is protective services work at state park beaches with responsibility for the protection and safety of visitors at the swimming facilities.  An important feature of this work is recognizing potential dangers and hazards that an individual may be placed in, and correcting the situation to prevent an accident or drowning.  Work is performed under immediate supervision with the incumbent applying clear rules and guidelines independently.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: At least sixteen (16) years of age and successful completion of Lifeguard Competency Test.

 

The following must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class: Possession of a current/valid Lifeguard Certification, current/valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification, and current/valid First Aid Certification; and successful completion of the Lifeguard Academy.

The following general information pertains to seasonal employment at Maine State Parks:

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older (Lifeguards must be 16 or older)
  • Applicants must be U.S. Citizens or have legal authority to work in the U.S.
  • In general, housing is not available.
  • Most positions are scheduled to work 40 hours each week, with weekends and some holidays required.
  • Parks seasonal positions are required to wear uniforms which are provided by the agency.

Job offer to a new hire is conditional upon verification of credentials, criminal record, and driver’s license check if applicable.  Three references must be made available at the interview to include at least one work-related reference.   Anyone meeting the minimum qualifications of the position may apply.

BENEFITS: 
The bi-weekly dollar values of some State-paid benefits for full-time employees include: $14.60 for dental insurance; 14.11% of employee’s pay towards retirement; and, depending on the employee’s annual pay, at least 85% ($400.34) of health insurance premiums (more information is available here). Participation in the Health Premium Credit Program can decrease the employee’s cost of health insurance by 5%.
