DESCRIPTION:

This is maintenance and personal service work involving the custodial care and maintenance of buildings and equipment at the Maine Army Guard’s Camp Keyes facility in Augusta, Maine. Responsibilities include the care and operation of heating systems and may involve the supervision of a limited number of helpers. Work is performed under general supervision.

Qualified candidates will demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Knowledge of the maintenance and minor repair of plumbing, heating, and electrical systems and fixtures.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of the precautions necessary to safeguard property and equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to perform a variety of manual tasks in the care, cleaning, and maintenance of buildings and equipment.
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs unassisted and follow a work schedule.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience and training which demonstrates a basic knowledge of building and grounds maintenance and repair.

Candidates must pass a National Guard Bureau security background check prior to obtaining permanent status. 

Preference will be given to candidates demonstrating the following:

  • The proper techniques and use of floor care machines – floor strippers, buffers and polishers.
  • Knowledge and ability to use and apply floor care products – stripper, sealer, wax, spray buffing compound.
  • Experience in snow removal and the use of plowing / sanding trucks and heavy equipment.
