The Department also promotes public health, operates two state psychiatric hospitals, and provides oversight to health care providers.
Job duties:
This is a senior level management position overseeing treatment planning and internships in a hospital setting.  This position sets standards for psychological treatment for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness as well as develops hospital wide policy to impact the treatment of those individuals.
Successful applicants must have a Ph. D. or PSY.D in clinical or counselling psychology from an A.P.A. accredited doctoral program, or its equivalent, and must be license eligible as a psychologist in the State of Maine. In addition, applicants must offer evidence of a least six (6) years of progressively responsible experience, one (1) year of which may have been an internship, including administrative, supervisory, and/or research responsibility is required. Preference will be given to applicants who have experience working with patients with Serve personality disorders and /or forensic treatment settings.
  • Plans, organizes and directs the psychological services in a large state psychiatric hospital in order to ensure quality psychological services are provided.
  • Plans and directs research in the field of psychology in such areas as personality, psychopathology, and the assessment of treatment results in order to increase knowledge within the areas of study and improve quality of treatment to clients.
  • Counsels and treats hospital and clinic clients in order to assist in client’s overall treatment.
  • Confers with other clinical department heads to plan hospital-wide initiatives and to advance the practice of psychology.
  • Acts as the Director of Psychology in the absence of the current director.
  • Develops and recommends policies and procedures governing the administration of psychological services in order to establish hospital guidelines.
  • Oversees and directs the work of pre and post -doctoral interns within the hospital setting
