Job description:

This position involves providing employment consultative services to a diverse customer population as well as employer and business consultative work includes promotion of workforce development services, job-site assessments, development and facilitation of recruitment strategy, and job development services.  Those with prior experience in career counseling or vocational services, don’t miss out on this great opportunity.  Some travel to be expected.  Excellent customer service is a must!

What will you do?

  • Contact, visit and consult with employers to assist with workforce needs including recruitment, training and retention and connect business to available services.  Engage employers in conversations about hiring from diverse workforce pools. 
  • Work as a regionalized team, both local and statewide, to maintain consistency and a provide a proactive approach in providing customers with the best resources, information and customer service delivery.
  • Collect, organize and analyze information about customers to appraise interests, aptitudes and abilities for vocational planning.
  • Analyze, identify and assess employers' and businesses' employment needs to respond to labor market workforce needs by conducting research and learning about an industry’s practices to identify barriers that applicants may face and work with the employer to address them.   
  • Provide case management services for customers with employment history problems to identify and remove barriers and assist in employment retention.
  • Compile occupational, educational and economic customer information to aid customers in determining and attaining vocational objectives.
  • Refer customers to employers or training programs to help customers progress towards vocational goals.
  • Consult, guide and advise customers in assessing occupational families and the level of experience, training, education and services available in career decisions to assist with life-long learning.
  • Work as a team with workforce partners to analyze, identify and assess employers' and businesses' employment needs and respond with relevant and coordinated plan of action.
  • Develop and negotiate training agreements for apprenticeship programs, internships and on-the-job-training employment opportunities for employers/businesses in order to develop workforce of business.
  • Follow up and records results of vocational counseling to determine customer's progress.
  • Evaluate data to identify cause of vocational problems and to determine employment capabilities.
  • Research, organize and conduct workshops to train customers in employment services, job seeking and interview skills and other available programs and services.
  • Promote, advise, consult and coordinate services through participation in informational sessions, job fairs, and trade shows to create public awareness.

Qualifications:  

A four (4) year combination of education, training and/or work experience at the paraprofessional or professional level in job counseling, employment interviewing and job placement or related vocational services.   

Applicants should have experience that demonstrates resiliency and competency in applying a solid knowledge of the principles of exceptional, quality customer service, the ability to handle and defuse stressful situations with difficult customers and the ability to perform complex work in assisting the public.   The successful candidate must also have good computer knowledge to include Microsoft Office and possess the ability to use independent judgment in handling work assignments, priorities and schedules.
