JOB DESCRIPTION:    The Building Mechanical Systems Specialist position is structure and craft work at the master’s level involving the installation, service, maintenance, and operation of plumbing or heating systems, and cooling systems.  The position is based at Camp Keyes in Augusta.  The successful candidate must be available for emergency call-in, snow removal operations and overtime, when necessary. 

JOB DUTIES:   

  • Installing, maintaining, and repairing systems and components; operating mechanical and computerized systems of a large number of buildings and facilities statewide; identifying needed repairs; and performing life cycle analysis of existing systems to determine adequacy and to prioritize related activities.
  • Performs installations, regularly scheduled maintenance, emergency service and repairs to of all oil-fired appliances and equipment & propane and natural gas-fired appliances and equipment.
  • Performs maintenance, repair and installation of all heat, ventilation and air conditioning equipment maintaining proper documentation and tracking of records for DEP and EPA #608 compliance requirements for reclaiming of refrigerants to repair and to recycle non-serviceable appliances  
  • Provides functional direction of skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled workers to ensure work done by others complies with applicable codes, standards, and specifications, and will pass formal inspection.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:    Current valid Master Oil Burner Mechanic's License (#1&2 fuels up to 15 GPH) as issued by the Maine Fuel Board. Master Plumbers License as issued by the Maine Plumbing Board,    A valid Maine Driver's license is required.

LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS(These must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class).   Environmental Protection Agency #608 Universal Technician Certification and Propane and Natural Gas Technician License with endorsements (Large Equipment Connection/Service)

In order to obtain permanent status in this position, the successful candidate must pass a Department of Defense background check.
