DESCRIPTION:

The Maine Department of Professional and Financial Regulation Bureau of Insurance seeks an Insurance Company Examiner.  

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Participate in the performance of risk-focused financial analysis and surveillance of Maine domiciled insurance companies.

Qualified applicants must have knowledge of:

  • Accounting principles and practices
  • Business law
  • Business management

Qualified applicants must have the ability to:

  • Analyze accounts, records and financial statements
  • Communicate effectively
  • Write clearly and effectively
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships

For full job performance, Examiners will be expected to obtain:

  • Knowledge of insurance company practices
  • Knowledge of National Association of Insurance Commissioners uniform reporting blanks
  • Knowledge of state laws, rules and regulations pertaining to insurance practices

QUALIFICATIONS

A bachelor’s degree in accounting or closely related field –OR- an acceptable four (4) year equivalent combination of education, training and experience.  

Preference may be given to those applicants holding the following certifications; CFE, AFE, CPA, CISA or AES.  Attainment of permanent status in this position is dependent on obtaining the Society of Financial Examiners Accredited Financial Examiner designation.

This position is eligible for a stipend of up to 21% of the hourly rate of pay for employees who maintain either the CPA and/or the CFE designation.
