The Department of Administrative & Financial Services is an innovative organization that coordinates a number of central services for agencies within Maine State Government. The Natural Resources Service Center provides financial and budgetary management services as well as human resource and employee relations services to the four natural resource agencies of state government and Baxter State Park.  This position provides support to financial management professionals and provides critical financial management resources to the state’s four natural resource agencies and Baxter State Park.

 

JOB DUTIES: The incumbent will be a critical member of a team managing the financial resources of the four natural resource agencies and Baxter State Park. As an Accounting Support Technician, you will support professional staff charged with developing business and internal controls to ensure proper accountability of fiscal operations.  You will interpret and apply accounting theory and principles and adapt procedures and reporting techniques in order to ensure compliance with governing laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.  The incumbent will prepare required financial statements and related notes and disclosures in order to communicate relevant financial information to concerned parties and other agencies.  In this position, you will support staff who consult with agency program managers and internal/external financial staff in order to identify business needs, compliance issues, and reporting requirements and ensure compliance with state/federal fiscal policies or other special requirements. You will review and analyze requests for payments for adherence to GAAP & GASB standards. Successful candidates will be knowledgeable of GAAP and GASB and skilled in the use of standard desktop technology, particularly spreadsheets.  This position is located in Augusta.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  An Associates Degree from an accredited educational institution in Accounting -OR- any Bachelors Degree from an accredited educational institution that includes 12 semester hours in accounting coursework -OR- 3 years of practical work experience providing complex technical support to professional accounting staff.  Accounting coursework must include successful completion of Principles of Accounting I & II plus two other accounting-related courses.  Experience must demonstrate comprehension and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) guidelines.

Value of State-paid Dental Insurance:  $14.60 biweekly

Value of State-paid Health Insurance*:

Level 1:  100% State Contribution = $470.99 biweekly (employee pays nothing)
Level 2:  95% State Contribution = $447.44 biweekly (Employee pays: 5%)

Level 3:  90% State Contribution = $423.89 biweekly (Employee pays: 10%)
Level 4:  85% State Contribution = $400.34 biweekly (Employee pays: 15%)

 
*The level of actual value of state paid Health Insurance will be based on employee’s wage rate and status with regard to the health credit premium program.
