This position performs professional services work in compiling and analyzing workforce data. Responsibilities include collecting and reporting data; reviewing data to ensure quality; using statistical methods; interpreting and analyzing workforce data to describe economic trends in support of departmental programs. The core mission of the Center for Workforce Research and Information (CWRI) is to inform the public about conditions and trends in the workforce. CWRI works in collaboration with the U.S. federal government to generate data and information for the public.

Representative Tasks: 

  • Computes various types of workforce data.
  • Collects, compiles, edits and reviews data to ensure it is accurate, complete and suitable for intended use.
  • Tabulates data for analysis and uses statistical software to organize and analyze data.
  • Formulates statistics and creates data visualizations including charts and graphs using Microsoft Excel. Uses data visualization software to update and maintain interactive charts and tables.
  • Develops and implements procedures, surveys and other methods used to collect and record data.
  • Responds to data requests by identifying sources and collecting and compiling relevant data.
  • Uses summary tables, infographics, charts, and explanatory text to produce information to reach a wide range of consumers.

Knowledges, skills, and abilities required:

  • Attention to detail, accuracy and consistency
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics and statistical methods.
  • Knowledge of programs used for statistical operations.
  • Knowledge of research methods, practices, and techniques and data sources.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to validate data, organize data for analysis, formulate summary statistics and respond to requests for information.
  • Ability to use standardized computer programs and equipment.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn data visualization software and techniques.

Qualifications:

A four (4) year combination of education, training, and/or experience involving the collection, organization, analysis and/or presentation of statistical data.

After meeting the above minimum qualifications, preference may be given to candidates with knowledge of, experience and/or coursework in the following: statistical analysis, data visualization tools and techniques (Tableau, Power BI), structured query language (SQL), hypertext markup language (HTML), survey research.
