Institutional Custodial Worker – 2 Positions Available

 (1st Shift 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.)

The purpose of this announcement is to recruit qualified candidates to fill five vacant Institutional Custodial Worker positions for the Department of Administrative and Financial Services, Bureau of Real Estate Management, Property Management Division.



  • Scrubs, mops, sweeps, waxes, and polishes floors;
  • Dusts and polishes furniture;
  • Washes windows, woodwork, toilets, washrooms, and fixtures in order to maintain cleanliness of building(s).
  • Disinfects rooms and furniture in order to control disease and odors.
  • Replaces burned out light bulbs and assists in making simple repairs to buildings and equipment in order to maintain facility.
  • Bags and disposes of contaminated waste materials in order to prevent the spreading of disease.




  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of the proper procedures and protective clothing necessary to sanitize living areas and safely dispose of infected materials.
  • Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to perform a variety of routine manual custodial tasks.



Experience which demonstrates housekeeping skills and the physical capacity to perform a variety of custodial tasks.

The value of State’s share of Employee’s Retirement:  15.37% of salary for BU positions.  The value of State-paid Dental Insurance:  $13.13 biweekly.  The value* of State-paid Health Insurance:


  • Level 1: 100% State Contribution (employee pays nothing):  $444.68 biweekly
  • Level 2: 95% State Contribution (employee pays 5%):  $422.45 biweekly
  • Level 3: 90% State Contribution (employee pays 10%):  $400.21 biweekly
  • Level 4: 85% State Contribution (employee pays 15%):  $377.98 biweekly


*The level of the actual value of state paid Health Insurance will be based on the employee’s wage rate and status with regard to the health credit premium program.
