*This is earning potential over the course of eight steps, new hires will start at Step 1.  Annual step increases are based on performance reviews and authorization of such increases.

 

The Department of Environmental Protection, Bureau of Air Quality, has a current vacancy in Bangor for an Environmental Specialist II.

 

BRIEF DESCRIPTION: This position is primarily responsible for field work involved in the operation of the air monitoring network in Eastern Maine.  Typical duties include operating and maintaining ambient air monitoring equipment, including: the troubleshooting and repair of electronic instrumentation; performing data analysis, including quality assurance assessments; data entry into EPA’s database; and routine maintenance of monitoring sites.  These duties are all designed to assure maximum data recovery.  This position also responds to data requests from the public.  This position will support compliance activities, as needed, in Eastern Maine.  The position requires some skill with database management, word processing, and spreadsheet use.  This position will be required to work outdoors, occasionally in inclement weather, and drive to sampling sites some distance from the Eastern Maine Regional Office.

Preference will be given to candidates with air monitoring experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  A Bachelors Degree from an accredited educational institution which includes 15 credit hours of science or engineering courses -OR- a four (4) year combination of education and experience in an environmental science or related area.

Level 1:  100% State Contribution = $461.75 biweekly (Employee pays: nothing)

Level 2:  95% State Contribution = $438.66 biweekly (Employee pays: 5%)

Level 3:  90% State Contribution = $415.58 biweekly (Employee pays: 10%)

Level 4:  85% State Contribution = $392.49 biweekly (Employee pays: 15%)

**The level of actual value of State-paid Health Insurance will be based on employee’s wage rate and status with regard to the health credit premium program.
