The Land for Maine’s Future (LMF) Program is the State of Maine's primary competitive grant program for conserving land for its natural and recreational values.  The LMF Program serves the state and Maine citizens in numerous ways, including:

  • Improves public access to land and water for traditional recreation activities
  • Assists communities with investments in town owned forests, parks and water access sites
  • Supports tourism opportunities with pedestrian and motorized trail networks and access to some of Maine’s most scenic locations
  • Provides working lands to support marine fisheries, forestry and agricultural industries

LMF is pleased to announce two Senior Planner vacancies.

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: These positions are responsible for managing the successful completion of land and easement acquisition projects selected by the LMF Board. These positions will also staff LMF Board meetings and committees as needed.  Both positions will manage conservation, recreation and water access projects.  One position will also manage LMF’s working waterfront projects while the other position will manage farmland protection projects.

 

The primary responsibilities of these positions includes managing a diverse portfolio of land acquisition projects selected by the LMF Board. Specifically, this entails overseeing the program’s real estate due-diligence requirements, implementing Board policies and procedures, and following state contracting and procurement requirements. 

 

The positions may also manage the following: Data management and reporting to the public through the LMF website and other mandated reports;  Environmental Site Assessment report review; annual monitoring report process; coordinating transfer of digital shapefiles to the State’s conserved lands digital data layer; assisting with preparation for LMF Board meetings; staffing LMF Board and sub-committee meetings and other tasks and special projects as assigned.

 

The successful candidate will enjoy working in a small office setting with a team of colleagues across multiple State Agencies, contract attorneys, and partners from municipalities and non-governmental organization. In addition, candidates will enjoy periodic site visits to project locations and should have the ability to walk up to 3 miles to conduct a review of the property.

 

The successful candidate will bring a broad set of skills and experiences which should include a combination of the following: a solid understanding of real-estate transactions, reading and understanding deeds, legal descriptions and surveys and property title review; evaluating USPAP and UASFLA appraisals; evaluating Environmental Site Assessment reports; conservation planning at the local, regional or state-wide scale; conservation easement drafting and/or monitoring; stewardship and management of working lands; land-use planning princples; climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies as they relate to working lands and conservation land management. 

 

Finally, the successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships; work collaboratively in a team environment and provide a high level of customer service.  Excellent problem-solving, organizational, project management and consensus building skillls are essential.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  A Bachelors Degree in environmental sciences, community planning and development, public administration, or a related field and four (4) years of related work experience. Equivalent related experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

 

Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in the following:

paralegal or real estate experience, project management, Geographic Information Systems and MS Office programs including Access databases.

Value of State’s share of Employee’s Retirement: 14.47% of pay, Employee Pays: 7.65% of pay
Value of State-paid Dental Insurance:  $14.31 biweekly

Value of State-paid Health Insurance*:

Level 1:  100% State Contribution = $461.75 biweekly (employee pays nothing)

Level 2:  95% State Contribution = $438.66 biweekly (Employee pays: 5%)

Level 3:  90% State Contribution = $415.58 biweekly (Employee pays: 10%)
Level 4:  85% State Contribution = $392.49 biweekly (Employee pays: 15%)
