 Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Center (DDPC) is a 51-bed psychiatric hospital serving the entire State of Maine that provides services for people with severe mental illness.   As a member of a statewide community of care givers, DDPC collaborates with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness, their community and personal supports, to provide recovery-oriented, respectful, compassionate, and effective psychiatric care and treatment in the least restrictive, safest, and most therapeutic environment we can create.

Job duties:

As DDPC’s newest Mental Health Worker I, you will provide paraprofessional support work involving the direct care and rehabilitation of patients in DDPC.  Responsibilities include implementing programs in the care, treatment and education of those with severe and persistent mental illness, providing direct patient care, transporting patients within the community, and maintaining safety of assigned areas.  Work is performed under general supervision.


 High School diploma or equivalent.  Preference will be given to those candidates with experience in mental health, and who have a valid Maine driver's license.

Value of State’s share of Employee’s Retirement:  AFSME - 19.27%  of pay 
Value of State-paid Dental Insurance:  $14.31 biweekly

Value of State-paid Health Insurance*:

Level 1:  100% State Contribution = $461.75 biweekly (employee pays nothing)
Level 2:  95% State Contribution = $438.66 biweekly (Employee pays: 5%)
Level 3:  90% State Contribution = $415.58 biweekly (Employee pays: 10%)
Level 4:  85% State Contribution = $392.49 biweekly (Employee pays: 15%)
*The level of actual value of state paid Health Insurance will be based on employee’s wage rate and status with regard to the health credit premium program as of July 1, 2019.
