BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION:  Job responsibilities include feeding, watering and general care of all wild birds and mammals at the park; participation in construction and maintenance of displays, buildings, and real property; daily collecting of admissions fees and donations received from the public; assisting visitors and attending to their questions and needs; explaining and conducting tours of the wildlife park; operation and maintenance of equipment including but not limited to tractor, backhoe, plow truck, chainsaw, dump truck, bulldozer, lawn and riding mowers, welder, and power tools.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTWeekend and holiday work is required on a regular monthly rotation. Ability to construct and maintain various buildings, habitats, structures, and displays; ability to operate and maintain equipment such as dump trucks, tractors, chainsaws, and backhoes, (listed above) etc.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  At least 2 years education and/or any equivalent combination of training and experience in wildlife conservation, working with and providing care to confined animals (excluding personal pets), and associated facilities maintenance. In addition to the minimum qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates who have 3 years work experience that is directly relevant to the wildlife, equipment, and other maintenance needs of the Maine Wildlife Park.

Value of State’s share of Employee’s Retirement: 14.47% of pay, Employee Pays: 7.65% of pay

Level 1:  100% State Contribution = $461.75 biweekly (employee pays nothing)
Level 2:  95% State Contribution = $438.66 biweekly (Employee pays: 5%)

Level 3:  90% State Contribution = $415.58 biweekly (Employee pays: 10%)
Level 4:  85% State Contribution = $392.49 biweekly (Employee pays: 15%)
