The mission for the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Maine CDC), within which this position is located, is to develop and deliver services to preserve, protect, and promote the health and well-being of the citizens of Maine.

Job duties:

 As the Maine CDC’s Performance Improvement Specialist within the Accreditation and Performance Improvement Program, you will work with the leadership to assure that data is efficiently and effectively collected, analyzed, and reported.  You will also assure that the data is used for performance monitoring, planning, and policy development.  You will be responsible for extracting data from multiple systems by utilizing enhanced querying capabilities, and by developing and scripting complex queries.  You will create and maintain data visualization tools used by program managers and Maine CDC leadership to evaluate program performance and process improvements. 

 

You will also:

  • Provide technical assistance to program staff in the development of performance measures, extraction of data from various data systems and use of the data for program improvement.
  • Develop and maintain performance data across Maine CDC.
  • Aid in the oversight and maintenance of data-related information displayed on the Maine CDC website.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

A Bachelor’s Degree in Public/Community Health, Health Administration, Health Sciences, or Health Education; Public Administration, Government, Social Work, or a closely-related field; and three (3) years’ professional experience in the planning, development, coordination, and/or evaluation of health or related programs or services -OR- an equivalent seven (7) year combination of education, training, and experience. 

 Preferred candidates will also have:

  • Educational background in Informatics or Data Analytics
  • Experience in collecting, analyzing and summarizing quantitative and qualitative data for use in evaluating program performance.
  • Experience with databases such as Microsoft Access, SQL Server and Oracle and report writing and visualization software, such as Tableau, Cognos, or SSRS.
  • Proficiency in using data management systems, including layered data and querying capabilities and data linkages.
  • Experience in implementing quality improvement projects
  • Experience in establishing or implementing performance management metrics and systems
  • Skills in the development and maintenance of websites.
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain thorough documentation of processes and procedures.
  • Initiative and the ability to work independently. 
  • Written and verbal communications to a wide variety of audiences, including translation of technical analytics to non-technical audiences and solid customer service skills.
  • Ability to work with teams of technical and non-technical colleagues.
