The Office of Marijuana Policy (OMP) has a current opening located in Augusta, Maine.


This position requires significant direct contact with members of the public in person and by phone.  The position also performs complex, varied office support tasks often requiring established skill sets which include a solid knowledge of modern office practices and office equipment necessary to perform divergent clerical functions.  Responsibilities require independent decision-making on the appropriate processes to follow, information to process, and actions to take in accordance with standard procedures.


  • Create and use varied correspondence formats and compose standard business correspondence.
  • Develop and use computerized formats to verify provider information.
  • Post to, amend, and/or update web pages using established content and knowledge of modern office software.
  • Examine documents/information, determine facts, detect errors and irregularities and act as authorized.
  • Perform routine, occasional secretarial duties such as complete work schedules, sort mail, copy, print, arrange appointments, arrange travel/lodging and review documents to respond to requests.
  • Write regular and/or periodic reports.
  • Administer and/or process applicable licenses in accordance with set procedures.
  • Collect, count, reconcile and/or deposit fees in accordance with set procedures.
  • Reconcile funds and perform calculations for reports, refunds.
  • Receive and greet visitors and determine customer needs.
  • Advise others requesting technical assistance.
  • Apply to routine individual cases an explanation and interpretation of applicable rules, regulations, policies, procedures, codes and/or documentation requirements.
  • May confer with supervisor on work flow of work team members.


Training, education, or experience in office and administrative support work that demonstrates 1) competency in applying a solid knowledge of modern office practices to perform complex, varied office support tasks, and 2) the ability to use independent decision-making on the appropriate processes to follow, information to process, and actions to take in accordance with standard procedures.  All positions in this classification assume the qualifications of: Office Assistant I, Office Assistant II, and Office Associate I.   *Preference will be given to candidates with strong Excel, Word, and Microsoft skills, processing licenses, interpreting policy/procedures, as well as a background in customer service.


The value of State’s share of Employee’s Retirement:  14.47% of salary for BU positions.  The value of State-paid Dental Insurance:  $14.31 biweekly.  The value* of State-paid Health Insurance: 

  • Level 1: 100% State Contribution (employee pays nothing):   $461.75 biweekly
  • Level 2: 95% State Contribution (employee pays 5%):             $438.66 biweekly
  • Level 3: 90% State Contribution (employee pays 10%):           $415.58 biweekly
  • Level 4: 85% State Contribution (employee pays 15%):           $392.49 biweekly

*The level of the actual value of state paid Health Insurance will be based on the employee’s wage rate and status with regard to the health credit premium program.
