JOB DESCRIPTION:  This is a supervisory position in the Office of the State Fire Marshal with one Office Associate II who will provide administrative support. .

Responsibilities include scheduling work assignments, resolving questions regarding code interpretations, and providing training for Municipal code officials and other groups.   State-wide travel is required.

 The successful candidate will have the

  • Ability to develop rules governing the building code and code enforcement training
  • Ability to provide training on various Code Enforcement topics
  • Ability to read, interpret and explain complex codes, regulations and laws
  • Ability to read and understand detailed construction plans for a variety of construction types for a variety of occupancies
  • Ability to plan, assign, review and evaluate the work activities and performance of subordinate staff
  • Ability to train and supervise subordinate staff
  • Ability to write clear and concise reports and keep accurate records
  • Ability to establish relationships with various constituent groups 
  • Knowledge of supervisory practices, principles and techniques
  • Knowledge of inspection procedures and techniques
  • Ability to elicit information using tact and diplomacy
  • Ability to represent the office in various settings such as the legislature and other similar settings 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:    A six (6) year combination of education, training, and/or experience in the application of fire, life safety, and building codes. 

Preference will be given to candidates who are a certified Code Enforcement Officer
