JOB DESCRIPTION:

This is an entry-level trainee position involving compliance determinations for business related taxes including: corporate, franchise, and pass-through entities. Work includes performing field audits of business under the supervision and oversight of senior personnel to determine tax liability and taxpayer compliance; and enforcing state tax laws

This is a two-year trainee classification which, upon successful completion and demonstration of certain specified competencies, results in reclassification to Senior Revenue Agent.

Work is performed under general supervision.

TYPICAL DUTIES

  • Audits and verifies moderately complex tax-related transactions, contracts, leases, and financial statements of individuals, business, and corporations to determine taxpayer compliance.
  • Prepares audit reports to report findings of independent audit determinations and establish a basis for additional state assessments when appropriate.
  • Analyzes a wide range of standard and automated accounting and record-keeping systems to formulate appropriate audit tests.
  • Explains state tax laws and regulations to inform taxpayers and taxpayer representatives of proper procedures to be used in determining tax liabilities.
  • Compiles, reviews, and summarizes evidence relating to tax compliance to present or defend state tax assessments at reconsideration hearings and appeals before a court of law.
  • Reviews and analyzes tax information, tax returns, taxpayer histories and prior audit results to identify audit candidates and issues.
  • Compiles, reviews, and summarizes evidence relating to tax compliance in order to present or defend state tax assessments in reconsideration.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution -OR- four (4) years of equivalent post-secondary education, training, and/or professional level experience in business administration, accounting, information technology and/or auditing.

The value of State’s share of Employee’s Retirement:  14.47% of salary for BU positions.  The value of State-paid Dental Insurance:  $14.31 biweekly.  The value* of State-paid Health Insurance:

  • Level 1: 100% State Contribution (employee pays nothing):  $461.75 biweekly
  • Level 2: 95% State Contribution (employee pays 5%):  $438.66 biweekly
  • Level 3: 90% State Contribution (employee pays 10%):  $415.58 biweekly
  • Level 4: 85% State Contribution (employee pays 15%):  $392.49 biweekly

*The level of the actual value of state paid Health Insurance will be based on the employee’s wage rate and status with regard to the health credit premium program.
