JOB DESCRIPTION:  This is maintenance and personal services work in caring for the grounds at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. 

JOB DUTIES:  Duties include applying herbicides and pesticides, planting and caring for plants and shrubs and may include overseeing and working with small crew in preserving and improving the appearance of the grounds and assisting in burial duties as necessary. 


  • Knowledge of landscaping and grounds keeping techniques
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance and repair
  • Ability to operate simple and perform operator level repairs and adjustments to grounds keeping equipment
  • Ability to operate backhoe/loader
  • Ability to supervise crew as required
  • Ability to work under adverse weather conditions
  • Ability to operate commercial construction equipment up to and including backhoe and loader
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:    Three years’ experience in grounds keeping work involving some supervisory responsibility.  Maine Class C license required.
