JOB DESCRIPTION

This split position is based out of the Maintenance camp in Turner Maine year round. The winter assignment involves Transportation Worker (non-supervisory) duties including snow and ice control operations and highway maintenance work. The summer assignment involves Transportation Crew Leader (supervisor) responsibilities of state-wide traffic, roadway striping work.   

Year-round work consists of the use and preventative maintenance of hand power tools and related heavy equipment to perform assigned duties.  May require long hours of work. The incumbent must be able to be reached by landline/cell phone during off-duty hours in case of emergency or unscheduled work and must live within a reasonable distance from the winter headquarters.  Winter work is performed under direct supervision.  Summer work is performed under limited supervision, overseeing and directing the work of highway maintenance crews engaged in roadway striping and traffic marking throughout the State.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two year combination of experience, or education in highway/bridge construction, fleet equipment repair, or transportation related maintenance including at least one year of lead worker experience.
  • Must possess the Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities noted above with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Required to work at a higher class as necessary and in accordance with required licenses and/or certifications.

LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: (These must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class).

Valid Class A motor vehicle license as issued by the State of Maine and completion of the 30 hour OSHA Safety course in construction (20 CFR Part 1926).

Level 4:  85% State Contribution (employee pays 15%):  $392.49 biweekly
