Agency information:

The DHHS Service Center (http://www.maine.gov/dhhs/servicecenter/) is responsible for program accounting, cash management and revenue/expenditure control for the entire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).  The Service Center provides budget and fiscal analysis for many complex areas within DHHS including TANF (i.e. Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) and MaineCare (formerly Medicaid). This position is located in Augusta.

Job duties:

 As an Accounting Assistant Technician, you will be working with the DHHS Service Center as part of the Accounts Payable.  You will be making payments for the Aging and Disabled clients of DHHS.  Duties will include writing checks, reconcile bank accounts, file, answer and speak with caseworkers and many other tasks. In this fast-paced environment, you’ll be asked to complete a variety of task each day to ensure timely payments and that client’s needs are met.  We will become efficient in the State’s accounting platforms and process a variety of payments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 To qualify, you must have an Associates Degree in Accounting or a closely related field from an accredited educational institution* and one (1) year of accounting or auditing experience -OR- a three (3) year combination of education and responsible accounting or auditing experience.

  1. DHHS Accounting Assistant Technicians working with the DHHS Service Center must have a strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Please summarize your experience and/or education which demonstrate your knowledge of GAAP.
  2. In order to be successful in this position, you must have strong time management skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines. Please share with us examples of your demonstrated ability to be flexible and adjust to business needs while balancing multiple tasks and priorities.

It is essential that DHHS Accounting Assistant Technicians have excellent communication skills, with a proven ability to foster interpersonal relationships with internal and external customers, in order to accomplish tasks and perform daily duties. Value of State-paid Dental Insurance:  $14.31 biweekly

Value of State-paid Health Insurance*:

Level 1:  100% State Contribution = $461.75 biweekly (employee pays nothing)
Level 2:  95% State Contribution = $438.66 biweekly (Employee pays: 5%)
Level 3:  90% State Contribution = $415.58 biweekly (Employee pays: 10%)
Level 4:  85% State Contribution = $392.49 biweekly (Employee pays: 15%)
*The level of actual value of state paid Health Insurance will be based on employee’s wage rate and status with regard to the health credit premium program as of July 1, 2019.
