The Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) is currently recruiting candidates for a full-time Rehabilitation Counselor I position. This position allows for the professional to be creative while developing relationships with clients and various community partners in support of the work the Rehabilitation Counselor IIs provide. The person selected for this position will be based in the Greater Portland Career Center located at 151 Jetport Blvd., Portland, Maine. This position provides Vocational Rehabilitation services to clients ages 14+ years of age in York County.

Typical duties include:

  • providing in-person VR Orientation for new clients,
  • developing an applicant profile/initial comprehensive assessment with applicants for vocational rehabilitation services
  • assisting with intake appointments,
  • gathering and processing information for eligibility determination,
  • drafting eligibility statements,
  • assisting with outreach and follow-up tasks to keep caseloads current and active,
  • following up with clients in rehabilitation plans to determine progress and need for further services,
  • supporting Summer Employment opportunities for Transition Clients,
  • coordinating with high schools and community providers,
  • scheduling and conducting career exploration assessments and workshops, and
  • assist with the coordination and delivery of Career Exploration Workshops in high schools and career centers.

The successful candidate will demonstrate experience with group facilitation and effective use of technology. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills are required. This position serves persons with a broad range of disabilities and ages. The position requires frequent travel in southern Maine.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: A four (4) year combination of training, experience, and/or education in vocational rehabilitation program development and implementation.

After meeting the above minimum qualifications, preference may be given to applicants with experience providing services (including group activities) to transition-age youth and/or business development experience.

85%  State Contribution = $392.49 biweekly / Employee pays:15% = $69.26 biweekly
