JOB DESCRIPTION

This is advanced technical work performing as a Quality Acceptance (QA) Inspector.  The selected candidate will perform QA inspection of fabricated items pertaining to projects involving bridge, highway, traffic and other related transportation structures. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:  Performing detailed inspection of fabricated items that involve structural steel, precast/prestressed concrete, precast concrete, fiber-reinforced polymers or other related materials; ensuring that the Quality Control (QC) of fabricated items is being performed by fabricators in accordance with the applicable contract documents and the fabricators’ QC plans; reviewing Working Drawings submitted to the Department by outside contractors for compliance with applicable contract documents; providing periodic inspections at fabrication facilities where consulting firms contracted by the Department are providing QA inspection; assisting in troubleshooting issues that arise in the course of manufacturing of fabricated items; assist in revising contract specifications; mentoring of lower-level QA inspectors.  A working knowledge of processes related to the fabrication of structural steel, precast/prestressed concrete, bridge coatings and other similar products is required.  Experience in reviewing structural Working Drawings is required.  A working knowledge of codes related to fabrication of steel and concrete items is required. Current certification in welding or/and precast/ prestressed concrete is required. Preference will be given to applicants that hold both a CWI and PCI Level 2.  The ability to travel statewide, out-of-state and internationally (Canada), including overnight stays for extended periods, is required.  These duties will be performed under limited supervision. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Eight (8) years of experience in engineering -OR- a Bachelors Degree in Engineering or a related technical field and four (4) years of engineering experience -OR- an Associate Degree in Engineering or a related technical field and six (6) years of experience in engineering.
