Purpose of Announcement

The Workers’ Compensation Board has one full time Clerk IV position available in its Augusta Central Office located at 442 Civic Center Drive, suite 100.


This position will increase overall operational efficiency and ensure the prompt resolution of claim filing issues while creating a management structure capable of setting and maintaining data standards and accuracy.   

The position will manage the office support services for the Board's Claims Management Unit and will be responsible for coordinating and ensuring the accuracy of regulatory filings by employers, insurance carriers and third-party entities for workers' compensation insurance claim information in compliance with Title 39-A.


  • Oversee work priorities and adjust them based on operational needs for the entire Claims Management Unit
  • Implement the instructions of the Business Manager I and ensure that goals for the Claims Management Unit are realized
  • Coordinate recruitment and hiring processes for the unit complying with human resource laws, policies, procedures, and practices
  • Evaluate, supervise and train subordinate clerical staff
  • Complete annual performance evaluations for members of the Claims Management Unit
  • Provide coaching that can include taking disciplinary action if/when appropriate
  • Train insurers regarding proper completion of forms
  • Update subordinate staff on policies and procedures that affect the unit
  • Authorize vacation and sick time for subordinate staff
  • Respond to requests for information on Workers Compensation policies and procedures to answer inquires and provide technical interpretations to agency staff
  • Assist in the creation and/or updating of forms relating to Claims Management Unit
  • Develop and recommend policies and procedures to improve overall operations
  • Write and prepare correspondence and documents as authorized
  • Create spreadsheets and perform data management
  • Examine documents for compliance with applicable regulations
  • Examine and review forms filed with the board regarding payment of benefits to injured workers, checking for completeness and accuracy
  • Collaborate with other Units and Agencies within the State.
  • Knowledge of the Workers’ Compensation Act as it pertains to the Unit
  • Research payment files for social security claims
  • Provide coverage for absent Employees
  • Other duties as assigned by the Business Manager I



Six years of training, education, and/or experience in office and administrative support work that includes two years performing supervision work or performing highly independent clerical work.

Preference will be given to those demonstrating 1) competency in applying a proficient knowledge of modern office practices to perform advanced administrative support tasks requiring specialized skills, and 2) the ability to use independent judgment, initiative, and discretion to make determinations on varied matters, and actions to take in accordance with standard procedures.  All positions in this classification assume the qualifications of:  Office Assistant I, Office Assistant II, Office Associate I, and Office Associate II.


 The value of State’s share of Employee’s Retirement:  14.47% of salary for BU positions.

The value of State-paid Dental Insurance:  $14.31 biweekly. 

The value* of State-paid Health Insurance:


Level 1:  100% State Contribution (employee pays nothing):  $461.75 biweekly

Level 2:  95% State Contribution (employee pays 5%):  $438.66 biweekly

Level 3:  90% State Contribution (employee pays 10%):  $415.58 biweekly

Level 4:  85% State Contribution (employee pays 15%):  $392.49 biweekly


*The level of the actual value of state paid Health Insurance will be based on the employee’s wage rate and status with regard to the health credit premium program .
