The Department of Corrections has vacancies for Juvenile Community Corrections Officer in Region 2 (Augusta).  This advertisement is for Maine Department of Corrections employees only and is a Temp Comp position.

JOB DESCRIPTION

This is investigative and protective services work involving the supervision and case management of juvenile offenders referred to the Department of Corrections or released to the community.  As a Juvenile Community Corrections Officer, your work includes assessing risks and needs, counseling, and supervising juvenile offenders on probation or other forms of community release, completing aftercare, pardon, and pre-disposition investigation reports; interstate compact investigations and duties; and investigating and participating in the formulation of release plans.  You will also make decisions relative to the detention, diversion, prosecution, disposition, referral, and discharge of juvenile offenders.  Work is performed under limited supervision.

REPRESENTATIVE TASKS:

Investigates juvenile delinquency cases and matters concerning probation and/or aftercare using evidence-based principles and practices to report findings.

Researches and writes institutional and court ordered investigation reports to present information needed for making case decisions.

Researches and completes pre-disposition, post-disposition, aftercare, pardon, furlough, and interstate compact investigations to provide information.

Compiles and records information on juvenile offenders and their activities in order monitor and document compliance with conditions of supervision.

Prepares and maintains strength-based juvenile offender rehabilitation case plans and records, and submits regular and special reports to superiors and the courts to carry out required procedures to intervene and remediate delinquent behavior.

Monitors, reviews, and revises individual rehabilitation case plans and refers them to appropriate education, employment, community, and treatment programs/resources to promote their rehabilitation and mitigate identified criminogenic factors.

Inform juvenile offenders of conditions of supervision to ensure they are understood.

Make prescribed contact and counsel juvenile offenders to assist with rehabilitation.

Arrests and transports juvenile offenders to jails, detention facilities, institutions, and hearings to enforce conditions of supervision.

Arranges and monitors for community/public service work, collects restitution and fines, and monitors disbursement of funds to enforce conditions of supervision.

Collaborates with community agencies and service providers to develop and monitor individual treatment and supervision plans and expand and enhance service delivery system for juvenile offenders.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, a Behavior Science or Social Science area, or a closely related field and six (6) months of experience in juvenile probation/parole work, youth counseling and case management, or juvenile law enforcement activities -OR- an equivalent combination of directly related education, experience, and training.

 

Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience working with adolescents and families involved with the juvenile justice system.

 

LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFCATION REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a Class C Maine Driver’s License.

  • Level 2:  95% State Contribution (employee pays 5%):  $422.45 biweekly
  • Level 3:  90% State Contribution (employee pays 10%):  $400.21 biweekly
  • Level 4:  85% State Contribution (employee pays 15%):  $377.98 biweekly

*The level of the actual value of state paid Health Insurance will be based on the employee’s wage rate and status with regard to the health credit premium program.

 

Value of State’s share of Employee’s Retirement: 22% of pay.
