CURRENT VACANCY INFORMATION
Bolduc Correctional Facility presently has a Correctional Grounds and Equipment Supervisor position vacancy in Warren, ME.  Bolduc Correctional Facility is a minimum-security facility that is primarily a vocational training site for the Department of Corrections serving 220 prisoners.  This position is open to current Maine DOC employees who wish to transfer to this facility and all outside candidates.

JOB DESCRIPTION

This is maintenance and personal services work in planning and overseeing various work details and equipment maintenance in and around a correctional facility.  Responsibilities include immediate supervision of crews of skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled employees performing duties involving all phases of grounds maintenance and improvement projects and instructing, overseeing and monitoring inmate behavior for activities of an inmate crew engaged in assigned tasks.   Work is performed under limited supervision. 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE JOB SUCCESSFULLY: (A position may not be assigned all the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all the duties that may be assigned).

Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

Knowledge of grounds maintenance methods, techniques, and equipment.

Knowledge of grounds equipment maintenance and repair.

Knowledge of supervisory practices.

Ability to supervise subordinate personnel.

Ability to assist in planning grounds maintenance and improvement projects.

Ability to follow oral, written, and graphic instructions.

Ability to keep simple records.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Ability to use applicable computer programs.

Plans and supervises the work of skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled employees performing such duties as flowerbed preparation, snow removal, lawn maintenance, and agency motor pool operation and maintenance to ensure work is completed.

Confers with supervisor concerning major projects such as landscaping, driveway construction, shade tree maintenance, and excavations relating to subsurface utility networks to provide input and exchange information.

Oversees the repair and maintenance of light and heavy equipment used in ground maintenance to maximize equipment readiness and availability.

Maintains simple records and assists with the preparation of cost estimates to document activities and provide information.

Completes miscellaneous activities as assigned; e.g., rubbish removal, laundry pickup and delivery to out buildings, and general patient and mail transportation to assist other areas in accomplishing required work.

Monitors and controls inmate behavior to accomplish assigned tasks and maintain institutional security.

Implements and complies with human resource laws, policies, procedures and practices such as: AA/EEO, recruitment, employment, position classification, performance appraisals, training, discipline, contract administration, human resource components of security protocols of agency information security and confidentiality policies, and employee safety.

Supervises and instructs inmates working on grounds and equipment projects to ensure work is accomplished correctly and safely.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Entry level knowledge, skills, and/or abilities may be acquired through, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO the following coursework/training and/or experience).

 

A High School Diploma or equivalent and four (4) years’ experience in grounds maintenance and the maintenance and repair of grounds maintenance equipment.

 

LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: (These must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class).

Value of State-paid Dental Insurance:  $13.13 biweekly

Value* of State-paid Health Insurance:

  • Level 1:  100% State Contribution (employee pays nothing):  $444.68 biweekly
  • Level 2:  95% State Contribution (employee pays 5%):  $422.45 biweekly
  • Level 3:  90% State Contribution (employee pays 10%):  $400.21 biweekly
  • Level 4:  85% State Contribution (employee pays 15%):  $377.98 biweekly

*The level of the actual value of state paid Health Insurance will be based on the employee’s wage rate and status with regard to the health credit premium program.

 

Value of State’s share of Employee’s Retirement: 22% of pay.
